About Us

About Hood Matters
Where Community Meets Opportunity

Hood Matters is a community and opportunity hub connecting people, resources, organizations, businesses, and ideas to create stronger pathways to personal and economic growth.

We bring together community engagement, workforce development, training, life skills, local resources, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and outreach in one collaborative ecosystem.

Hood Matters is both a physical and digital concept—a place where people can find information, participate in training, connect with organizations, discover opportunities, and build relationships that can lead to meaningful change.

Our focus is simple: make opportunity easier to find and community connections easier to build.

What We Do

Hood Matters creates connections across several areas:

Workforce & Employment
Connecting individuals with career preparation, job opportunities, workforce programs, and pathways to employment.

Training & Education
Providing access to life skills, career readiness, professional development, and other learning opportunities.

Community Resources
Helping individuals identify organizations, programs, services, and resources available in their communities.

Justice & Reentry
Supporting pathways for justice-impacted individuals through training, employment, mentorship, resources, and community connections.

Entrepreneurship & Economic Opportunity
Encouraging entrepreneurship, business development, networking, and access to economic opportunities.

Community Outreach
Bringing people and organizations together through events, initiatives, partnerships, education, and direct community engagement.

Our Connection to Fly Like An Eagle Outreach, Inc.

Hood Matters works in collaboration with Fly Like An Eagle Outreach, Inc. (FLAEO), a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening communities through outreach, workforce development, training, mentorship, resource navigation, and supportive services.

Hood Matters and FLAEO maintain distinct roles while working together to expand access to opportunity.

Hood Matters serves as the community and opportunity hub.

FLAEO serves as a nonprofit community and program partner.

Through this relationship, Hood Matters can help connect people to FLAEO programs and services while also creating opportunities for collaboration with other nonprofits, businesses, employers, educators, workforce organizations, and community partners.

The vision is bigger than one organization.

It is about building a network of organizations and people working together.

The Hood Matters Community Opportunity Initiative
From Connection to Opportunity

The Hood Matters Community Opportunity Initiative is our ongoing effort to connect people with the tools, relationships, resources, and opportunities needed to build stronger futures.

The initiative is built around four steps:

CONNECT

Bring individuals, businesses, nonprofits, workforce organizations, and community partners together.

LEARN

Provide access to training, education, life skills, career preparation, and professional development.

ACCESS

Help people find resources, services, programs, and opportunities available in their communities.

ADVANCE

Create pathways toward employment, entrepreneurship, education, economic stability, leadership, and personal growth.

A Hub Built Through Collaboration

Hood Matters recognizes that meaningful community change requires collaboration.

A person looking for work may need training first. Someone returning home after incarceration may need resources, mentorship, and employment support. An entrepreneur may need connections and business resources. A young adult may need career guidance and life skills.

The Hub is designed to help connect those pieces.

We bring together people and organizations that can contribute knowledge, resources, services, training, employment opportunities, mentorship, and community support.
